These Austin party resources gather the official links you need before a party: park reservations, weather, alerts, safe rides, alcohol, noise, fireworks, food, and power safety. We opened and checked every outside link on this page on Oct 15, 2026.

Rules change, and each park has its own. Use these pages as a starting point and call the reservations office when something isn't clear. Nothing here is legal advice.

Austin park reservations

  • City of Austin: Permits and reserving park spaces. Search reservable picnic sites and event buildings, and see what needs a permit. A small family gathering with potluck food and soft drinks generally doesn't. Alcohol and any amplified sound (even a small speaker) need a permit, and bounce houses aren't allowed at picnic sites. The page also links a picnic site features grid, a picnic sites map, and the Austin Center for Events for larger public events.

Williamson County park reservations

  • Round Rock: Rental facilities. Pavilions at Old Settlers Park, Play for All Park, and Community Park, plus plazas and event houses. Book through the Parks and Recreation office.
  • Georgetown: Park pavilions. Pavilions at Garey, San Gabriel, Rivery, San Jose, and Booty's Road parks, with an online availability check. Some events need a Park Event Permit with 14 days' notice.
  • Cedar Park: Lakeline Park pavilion rentals. Online pavilion booking with a table that shows which pavilions have electricity and water. It links to the city's other rental options.
  • Leander: Facility rental FAQ. How to request pavilions, which pavilions have electricity, and when you need a Special Event Permit (more than 100 guests, inflatables, amplified sound, or extra power).

Travis, Hays, and outlying park reservations

  • Pflugerville: Rental facilities. City facilities you can rent for parties, picnics, and socials, booked online.
  • Kyle: Rentals. Pavilions, gazebos, and rooms booked through Kyle Rec. Read each listing: several small pavilions have no electricity, and events with 100 or more guests need a Special Events Application.
  • Waco: Rent a park pavilion or facility. Large and small pavilions in Cameron Park, Brazos Park East, and other parks, plus community centers. The page notes which pavilions include electricity access.
  • College Station: Park and pavilion rentals. Pavilions with listed capacity and amenities. Book at least seven days ahead, and read the park rules on alcohol and sales.

Weather and heat

  • National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio. The official local forecast, hazards, and heat index for the I-35 corridor and Hill Country. Check it the week before and again the morning of your party, and have a covered backup spot if storms or triple-digit heat show up in the forecast.
  • National Weather Service: Heat safety. Who is most at risk in the heat (young children, older adults, and people with chronic conditions), heat illness signs, and why you never leave a child or pet in a car.

Severe weather and emergency alerts

  • WarnCentralTexas.org. Free emergency alerts by text, email, or phone from local officials in the Capital Area counties, including Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, and Burnet. You can also opt in to National Weather Service warnings. Outside those counties, ask your county emergency management office.

Getting home safe

  • TxDOT: Drive Sober. No Regrets. The state's impaired driving campaign. If you think you might drink at all, arrange a sober ride ahead of time: a taxi, rideshare, public transit, or a sober friend.
  • CapMetro: Plan your trip. Austin's transit trip planner and service alerts, so guests can ride home.

Alcohol rules

Parks set their own alcohol rules on top of state law, and they vary a lot. In Austin parks, drinking needs a permit with an approved site rental. College Station allows adults 21 and older to drink in city parks, but nothing can be sold without a TABC license. Check the park's rules page or ask the reservations office.

Noise rules

  • City of Austin: Outdoor amplified sound. For homes zoned residential, Austin City Code allows amplified sound from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at up to 75 decibels. From 10 p.m. to 10 a.m., it may not be audible beyond your property line. Commercial spaces and big public events need a permit.

In Austin parks, any amplified sound needs a sound permit, even a small speaker. Outside Austin, check your city's code or ask the venue, and give your neighbors a heads-up before a backyard party.

Fireworks rules

Food safety for parties

  • FoodSafety.gov: Keep food cool for the summer. Perishable food can sit out for two hours, and only one hour above 90 degrees. Keep coolers at 40 degrees or below, in the shade, with drinks in a separate cooler. Set out small batches of food and refill from the cooler instead of leaving one big platter in the sun.

Power and electrical safety

  • Austin Energy: Safety at home. Use outdoor-rated extension cords sized for the load, never plug cords or power strips into each other, keep electronics at least 10 feet from pools, and use GFCI outlets outdoors. It also covers portable generator safety.

Our machines need a standard 110 volt outlet on their own circuit. See party planning for power and setup tips.

Pool and water safety

  • Pool Safely. The federal pool safety campaign. Name an adult Water Watcher whose only job is watching kids in the water, use barriers and alarms, and learn CPR.

Party supplies and rentals

Local party rental companies carry tables, chairs, tents, and canopies. Before you book a tent or a bounce house for a park, read the park's rules: some parks don't allow rental tents or inflatables without a permit. For a home party, confirm the delivery area and setup time with the rental company.
