What to do with leftover margarita mix and slush
Turn leftover margarita mix and frozen slush into freezer pops, margaritas on the rocks, and slushie floats, and see why unopened mixes are refunded at pickup.

Leftover margarita mix and frozen slush make easy freezer pops, margaritas on the rocks, and slushie floats, so nothing goes to waste after the party. If a mix bottle is still sealed, hand it back to us at pickup: unopened mixes are refunded.
Unopened mixes come back for a refund
Before we arrive for pickup, gather any mix bottles you didn't open and set them by the machine. We refund unopened mixes at pickup, so ordering an extra bottle "just in case" is low risk. Plan about one mix for every 20 guests, and see how much mix and tequila to buy.
Save the slush before pickup
When the party winds down, pour what's left in each bowl into pitchers or freezer containers before we arrive to clean the machine. Label every container with the flavor and whether it has alcohol, especially if kids are in the house.
Freezer pops
Frozen slush turns into great freezer pops.
- Pour slush into pop molds, or into small paper cups.
- Freeze for about an hour, then push a craft stick into the center of each cup.
- Freeze until solid, then peel off the paper.
Kids slushie flavors like blue raspberry, cherry, and strawberry make bright, fun pops. Pops made from a bowl with alcohol are for adults only, and they may stay softer than kid pops. Label them clearly.
Margaritas on the rocks
An opened bottle of margarita mix makes good margaritas on the rocks. The mix is concentrated (the machine recipe adds several gallons of water to each bottle), so taste as you go.
- Mix a small pitcher of mix and cold water, then add tequila to taste.
- Stir well and pour over ice.
- Rim the glass with Lime Margarita Salt or Tajín from our margarita rim guide.
Leave out the tequila for an alcohol-free version that kids and nondrinkers can enjoy over ice.
Slushie floats
A float is the fastest way to use leftover slushie.
- Put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a cup.
- Add frozen slush on top.
- Finish with a splash of lemon-lime soda, cream soda, or cola.
Good float flavors include blue raspberry, cherry, orange dreamsicle, cola, and strawberry. For more alcohol-free ideas, see our mocktails and kids slushies hub.
Next-day frozen treats
Slush you froze in a container becomes firm overnight. Let it sit on the counter for a few minutes, then scrape it with a fork for a shaved-ice style treat, or let it soften and stir it back into a slushie.
More quick ideas
- Sparkling cooler: Fill a glass halfway with slush and top it with sparkling water.
- Fruit cup topper: Spoon a little slush over cut fruit for a cold dessert.
- Party punch: Stir slush into a pitcher of lemonade or fruit punch.
Store leftovers safely
- Keep opened mix as the label directs, and check the label before using it later.
- Keep slush that has alcohol in its own labeled container, away from kid treats.
- Use leftovers soon, while the flavor is fresh.
