Party invitation wording with examples

Good party invitation wording tells guests who, what, when, where, and how to RSVP in a few friendly lines. Start with those basics, then add one line that sets the mood. When your wording is ready, make the invite in minutes with our free party invite maker.
What every invite needs
Before you get creative, cover these five basics:
- Who the party is for, or who is hosting
- What kind of party it is
- When it starts, plus an end time if it matters
- Where it is, with the full address and any parking tips
- How to RSVP, and by what date
Then add any extras that apply: a dress code, a theme, whether kids are welcome, and whether guests should bring anything.
Party invitation wording examples
Copy any of these and fill in the brackets.
Birthday party
Join us for [Name]'s 40th birthday! Frozen margaritas, tacos, and good friends. [Day, date] at 7 PM, [address]. RSVP to [Host] by [date].
For a playful version, try: "Forty looks good on you. Come raise a frozen glass with us."
Kids birthday party
[Name] is turning 7! Come for games, cake, and frozen slushies. [Day, date], 2 to 4 PM, [address]. Wear play clothes. RSVP by [date] and let us know about any food allergies.
Always list an end time for a kids party so parents know when to pick up. A slushie line also tells parents the drinks are kid-friendly.
Adult margarita party
Salt or no salt? Join us for a backyard margarita party with frozen Lime and Strawberry margaritas. [Day, date], 6 PM until late, [address]. Adults only, please. RSVP by [date].
If some guests don't drink, add: "Alcohol-free slushies too." Every one of our mixes is alcohol-free until you add alcohol, so you can serve a slushie side from the same machine.
Office party
You're invited to the [Company] team celebration! Join us for food, frozen drinks, and a break from the inbox. [Day, date], 3 to 5 PM, [location]. Alcohol-free options available. Please RSVP by [date] so we can plan.
Keep office wording inclusive and clear about timing. For ideas on drinks at work events, see our corporate event page.
Retirement party
After 30 great years, [Name] is clocking out for good! Help us celebrate with stories, toasts, and frozen margaritas. [Day, date], 6 PM, [address]. RSVP by [date], and bring your favorite [Name] story.
Asking guests to bring a story gives you ready-made toasts and a keepsake for the guest of honor.
Tips for wording that works
- Keep it short. Guests skim. Three or four lines is plenty.
- Give the date and time their own line. That's the detail guests check most.
- Set the RSVP date a week out. You need that time to plan food and drinks. Our four-week party planning timeline shows when to send invites and when to book drinks.
- Match the tone to the party. Playful for a backyard bash, polished for a work event.
- Say who is invited. Make it clear whether kids, partners, or plus-ones are welcome.
Use your RSVPs to plan drinks
Your RSVP count tells you how much to order. One machine serves up to 100 guests. A margarita mix makes about 75 frozen drinks of 8 oz, and most fruit slushie mixes make about 50. Bigger parties rent 2 or 3 machines for up to six flavors. Plug your guest count into our drink calculator to see how many mixes you need.
