Tiki and luau party theme
Plan a tiki and luau party theme with a frozen drink machine: piña colada and mai tai bowls, a sweet heat rim, a kids fruit punch slushie, food, and games.

A tiki and luau party theme pairs a frozen drink machine with Piña Colada and Mai Tai in the two bowls, tropical flowers, and a sweet heat sugar rim. Fill one bowl with Fruit Punch or Orange Mango, alcohol-free, and the kids join the island fun.
The look
Think island resort in your backyard. Use hibiscus pink, mango orange, turquoise, and palm green.
- Hand out paper or silk leis at the door.
- Wrap the drink table in a grass skirt table fringe.
- Set out tiki torches or string lights (follow your HOA or venue rules on open flames).
- Use pineapples and coconuts as centerpieces.
- Lay palm leaves under the food platters.
The two bowls
| Option | Bowl 1 | Bowl 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Island classic | Piña Colada | Mai Tai |
| Blue lagoon | Blue Hawaiian | Piña Colada |
| Rum night | Hurricane | Rum Runner |
| Margarita lovers | Pineapple Margarita | Mango Margarita |
Piña Colada and most tropical mixes make about 50 frozen drinks per mix. Our frozen drink recipes show how to batch each one with rum and water.
Kids slushie bowl
Every mix is alcohol-free until you add alcohol. Keep Piña Colada in one bowl and fill the other with Fruit Punch or Orange Mango for the kids. A virgin Piña Colada also works as a kids drink if you leave out the rum, but label it clearly so nobody mixes up the bowls.
Rim and garnish
- Sweet Heat Cocktail Sugar on the Mai Tai or Mango Margarita adds sweet spice.
- Tajín Classic Seasoning is a good match for pineapple and mango.
- Chocolate Cocktail Sugar turns a kids Piña Colada into a treat.
Garnish with pineapple wedges, maraschino cherries, orange slices, and paper umbrellas. Use bamboo picks for fruit skewers.
Food ideas
- Pulled pork sliders with pineapple slaw
- Teriyaki chicken skewers
- Coconut shrimp
- Hawaiian rolls and a big fruit platter
- Pineapple upside down cake or coconut macaroons
Games and activities
- Limbo: a broom handle and a playlist is all you need.
- Hula hoop contest: longest spin wins first refill.
- Lei toss: toss leis onto a tiki torch post or traffic cone.
- Coconut bowling: roll a coconut at plastic bottles for the kids.
Printables
Design a tropical invitation on our party invite page. Then print:
- Tiki style bowl labels: "Grown up Mai Tai" and "Keiki Punch" or "Kids slushie"
- A drink menu card shaped like a surfboard
- A limbo bracket for the kids

Planning note
One machine serves up to 100 guests. If you want both rum drinks and a kids bowl, add a second machine for up to four flavors. We set up 2 to 3 hours before the party, and the first batch takes 2 to 3 hours to freeze. Set the machine on a sturdy table or our rolling cart, near a standard 110 volt outlet on its own circuit. We can't set up on rock or gravel.
